Applications
Steel
Steelmakers use vanadium to produce high-strength steels needed for infrastructure, tools, automotive components, and various other ferrous-based products.
This high-quality product is the universal strengthener and hardener for high-strength steels. Adding one pound of vanadium to a tonne of steel increases its tensile strength by approximately 40% or more. Using vanadium in steel also reduces the environmental impact along the steel production chain.
Rebar for construction
New standards, such as China’s updated high-strength rebar standard, have been designed to limit the use of inferior steels in construction. Adding vanadium to steel rebar allows producers to meet and exceed the standard’s recommendations.
Transport
Given its combination of high-strength, toughness, and weldability, vanadium-bearing steel is often the preferred option for infrastructure and automotive equipment components.
